The Texas Coalition for Affordable Insurance Solutions (TCAIS) – representing the major auto insurance companies doing business in Texas – thanked Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday for signing House Bill 62 – a statewide ban on texting while driving – into law, effective Sept. 1, 2017.
The following statement can be attributed to TCAIS Executive Director Beaman Floyd:
“Texas auto insurers are celebrating that we soon will have a law that makes it clear – the dangerous and deadly behavior of texting while driving no longer be tolerated on any road in our state. Past experience shows that consistency in the law – rather than piecemeal ordinances that change from city to city – will put Texas on the road to the cultural change needed to save lives. We thank Rep. Tom Craddick and Sen. Judith Zaffirini for their persistence in championing this legislation over numerous legislative sessions, and we thank the Texas Legislature and Gov. Greg Abbott for making its passage into law a success in 2017.”
